'₹82 Petrol, ₹70 E20': Kejriwal Urges Centre to Cut Fuel Prices After Questioning Carmakers on E20
Kejriwal said E20 petrol could be sold for ₹70 a litre and cited ₹77,000 crore in oil company profits last year.
- On Thursday, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal criticized the Central government, claiming international crude oil rates justify selling E20 petrol at ₹70 and non-E20 petrol at ₹82.
- Kejriwal argued that oil companies have generated bumper profits for three to four years, questioning why these earnings cannot offset losses rather than charging consumers "unjustified profit."
- The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated that blending prevents sudden price hikes and saves foreign exchange, noting prices would only drop if crude skyrocketed past 120 dollars.
- "Today, the Government purchases ethanol at remunerative prices so that Indian farmers are fairly compensated," the ministry said, adding that blending reduces India's exposure to imported crude oil.
- The government cautioned Consumers against misinformation, asserting that E20 fuel is "validated and assured by all responsible stakeholders" and remains a safe, cleaner alternative to conventional petrol.
