Arsenal 1-0 Hull City: How the Players Rated
Arsenal stayed six points clear at the top after Odegaard’s rebound finish secured a sixth one-goal league win this season, officials said.
On Saturday, Arsenal were denied a penalty from 12 yards against Hull City at Emirates Stadium when VAR ruled Kai Havertz offside before he was pulled down by defender Nobel Mendy.
Referee Farai Hallam initially announced a foul, but VAR intervened to award Hull a free-kick despite IFAB "Laws of the Game" stating fouls should be penalized if they occur before an offside offense.
BBC Sport football correspondent Dale Johnson called the intervention "very controversial," noting that Havertz must be "attempting to play the ball, or challenging an opponent for the ball" for offside to take precedence over Mendy's shirt pull.
The decision left Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta fuming on the touchline, while BBC pundit Dion Dublin labelled the penalty decision "clear as mud" as both teams remained goalless after 45 minutes.
Despite the first-half injustice, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard scored the game's only goal in the 72nd minute, securing a 1-0 victory that kept the Gunners at the top of the table.
