Archer Showcases Piloted Midnight Flight As It Advances To Next Phase Of Flight Test Program
- Last week, a piloted flight demonstrating conventional takeoff and landing was successfully conducted above Salinas, California, piloted by Archer’s lead test pilot, Jeff Greenwood, in the Midnight aircraft.
- This piloted flight follows years of safe autonomous testing that validated the Midnight's vertical takeoff and landing capabilities and prepared the aircraft for conventional takeoff tests.
- During the test, Midnight reached speeds up to 125 mph and climbed to over 1,500 feet while testing landing gear robustness and control responsiveness as part of ongoing certification efforts.
- Greenwood remarked that flying the Midnight aircraft felt very similar to using the simulator, noting that the aircraft’s responses matched their training precisely—providing the level of predictability and reliability desired during a test flight.
- Archer continues compiling data to support certification and commercialization in the U.S. And UAE, highlighting the combined vertical and conventional takeoff capabilities as key operational advantages.
