Archer's Midnight Air Taxis To Feature Musk's Starlink - Archer Aviation (NYSE:ACHR)
Archer Aviation will use Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit satellite internet to provide high-speed connectivity for passengers and support future autonomous aircraft development.
- On Friday, Archer Aviation announced teaming with SpaceX's Starlink to install and test satellite broadband on its Midnight eVTOL for passenger and ground connectivity.
- To support future autonomy, Archer Aviation and Starlink will jointly develop connectivity solutions for autonomous aircraft, enabling communications between Midnight, pilots, and engineering teams with low-latency coverage.
- Starlink's LEO constellation can reach aircraft at 1500 to 4000 feet, supporting Midnight's onboard Wi‑Fi during short city hops, Archer said.
- Adam Goldstein, Archer founder and CEO, said the 'industry-first' collaboration will enable seamless connectivity for passengers and pilots as Archer supports network hubs on U.S. coasts including Miami.
- The FAA warns that type certification can take five to nine years, and aviation experts are skeptical about Archer's plans for city deployments within two years.
