Air Taxis Could Soon Be Coming to South Florida to Tackle Growing Traffic Issues
Archer Aviation will use eVTOL aircraft for 10-20 minute flights connecting Miami-area airports and business centers to expand regional travel options and revenue.
- On Wednesday, Archer Aviation announced Miami as its third planned US air taxi network, joining New York City and Los Angeles in the Miami metropolitan area.
- To tackle growing traffic, Archer plans 10 to 20 minute flights connecting population and business centers across Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach.
- Archer must receive FAA certification for its four-passenger Midnight aircraft before deploying the Miami air taxi network, with heliports at Hard Rock Stadium and Apogee Golf Club being readied, said Melissa McCaffrey.
- Archer said the network will link the three major airports, offering transport between Miami International Airport , Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport , Palm Beach International Airport , and other local airfields, with air taxis based in Miami flying to multiple locations.
- Recently, certification delays in the UAE could push back Archer Aviation's US timeline, even as last month it signed a deal to supply Anduril and announced a $126 million Hawthorne Airport purchase.
