Apple iPhone shipments to beat Samsung for the first time in 14 years, report says
Apple is projected to capture 19.4% of global smartphone shipments in 2025, surpassing Samsung's 18.7% due to strong iPhone 17 sales and expanding lineup, research shows.
- This year Apple Inc. will retake the crown as the world’s largest smartphone maker, Counterpoint projects, holding a 19.4% global market share and reclaiming No.1 since 2011.
- Counterpoint analyst Yang Wang said, `a large cohort who bought phones during the Covid-19 boom are entering an upgrade phase, boosting replacement demand.`
- Earlier this month, Counterpoint Research published two reports showing Apple outpaced the market with iPhone 17 sales up 22% in the first month and 37% year-over-year in October, while Tim Cook highlighted the strong US and China performance.
- Apple said last month sales are growing faster than anticipated and the holiday quarter is poised to approach $140 billion, while shipments growth is forecasted at 10% for Apple Inc. and 4.6% for Samsung in 2025.
- Looking ahead, Counterpoint projects 3.3% broader smartphone market growth in 2025 and expects Apple to remain top seller until at least 2029, aided by a foldable iPhone, iPhone 17e, and 358 million secondhand iPhones sold between 2023 and Q2 2025.
