Apple Introduces New Audio Intelligence Features for Apple Watch
The new watches can detect alarms and sirens, transcribe the last 15 seconds of speech and summarize conversations without storing audio, Apple said.
- On Wednesday, Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 12 and Watch Ultra 4, featuring four opt-in "audio intelligence" tools powered by the devices' microphones.
- Apple's S11 chip processes audio within a "Secure Exclave," a hardware-isolated space where raw audio remains "completely inaccessible, even to Apple," the company wrote.
- New features include "Live Rewind," which transcribes the previous 15 seconds upon double-pressing the Digital Crown, and "Siri Recap," which generates high-level conversation notes.
- Critics compare the listening technology to Meta Glasses, dubbed "pervert glasses" online, while the NYPD warned earlier this year that such accessories could facilitate surveillance.
- The watches also feature a "Health Sensing System" for continuous cardiac tracking, with Siri audio features arriving as beta later this year.
