AP Review Finds Dozens of ICE Employees Charged With Abuse and Corruption as Agency Expands
At least 24 ICE employees and contractors have faced criminal charges since 2020, with misconduct linked to rapid agency growth and weakened oversight, experts warn.
- This past week, an Associated Press review found at least two dozen U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees and contractors charged since 2020 across multiple U.S. jurisdictions.
- As ICE rapidly expanded, Congress approved the $75 billion funding last year and detainee numbers nearly doubled since last year to 70,000, increasing risks of misconduct.
- Among the incidents, Scott Deiseroth, off-duty ICE agent, was sentenced to probation for drunk driving with his children, Samuel Saxon, assistant ICE field office supervisor, jailed for strangulation, and an ICE contractor in Louisiana pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a detainee over five months in 2025.
- AP's records show at least 17 convicted, six awaiting trial, and nine charged in the last year, while Tricia McLaughlin said ICE `takes allegations of misconduct by its employees extremely seriously`.
- One judge recently suggested ICE is developing a culture of lawlessness, while experts questioned vetting; Gil Kerlikowske and David Bier warned removal of bad hires is difficult and countrywide.
