Antonio Rivas Mercado was originally from Tepic, Nayarit, born on February 26, 1853. He studied in Mexico, England and France, in addition to being considered a representative of Mexican architecture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, he was one of those responsible for the national emblem founded in 1909 in Paseo de la Reforma to celebrate the centenary of Independence.
