Buccaneers Say S Antoine Winfield Jr. (Rib) Out 2-4 Weeks
The Buccaneers say the All-Pro safety has an abdomen and rib injury after limping off late in a 17-14 loss, reporters said.
On Monday, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles confirmed safety Antoine Winfield Jr. fractured his ribs during Sunday's 17-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers, sidelining him for two to four weeks.
The Buccaneers, already off to an 0-4 start, suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter, marking their first such winless opening since 2014.
With Winfield sidelined, safety Ifeatu Melifonwu will assume starting duties; Winfield signed a 4-year, $84.1 million extension after his 2023 All-Pro season and recorded 15 solo tackles this year.
Facing the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football, the Buccaneers navigate a short week without both Winfield and starting quarterback Baker Mayfield, compounding their defensive and offensive challenges.
Precarious depth leaves the team relying on special teams player Miles Killebrew or practice squad members JJ Roberts and Silas Walters to fill the safety gap.
