Nathan Fillion Says Animated 'Firefly' Sequel in the Works

  • On Sunday at Awesome Con, Washington, D.C., Nathan Fillion announced an animated Firefly series is in advanced development with most original cast members expected to reprise their roles.
  • Last week, a viral social media campaign and the Once We Were Spacemen podcast, launched November with 18 episodes, helped fuel fan demand for more Firefly content.
  • The project is being developed by Collision33 with 20th Television Animation, and showrunners Marc Guggenheim and Tara Butters have completed a script while ShadowMachine created early concept art and Adam Baldwin is expected to voice Jayne Cobb.
  • Positioned between the 2002 Firefly television series and Serenity, 2005 feature film, the animated series expands continuity while Firefly creator Joss Whedon is not involved.
  • The fully assembled package will be taken to buyers shortly, following Fox cancelling Firefly after 11 episodes despite producing 14, with the story set in the year 2517.
