Tennis Australia Hires NRL CEO Andrew Abdo to Replace Craig Tiley
He will leave before the NRL’s next broadcast and player deal negotiations, with both agreements due for renewal after the 2027 season.
On Monday, NRL CEO Andrew Abdo announced his mid-season resignation after six years leading the National Rugby League, with plans to join Tennis Australia.
Abdo is expected to replace Craig Tiley, who announced in February he was stepping down as Tennis Australia's CEO to become head of the US Tennis Association.
Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V'landys called Abdo "one of the best commercial brains in Australian sport," with the league posting a record $64.8 million operating surplus in 2025.
V'landys is expected to serve as interim CEO while the league searches for a permanent replacement; Abdo and V'landys will hold a media conference at Rugby League Central on Monday afternoon.
Abdo's departure occurs as the NRL negotiates its next broadcast deal and prepares for expansion, with teams joining Perth and Papua New Guinea in 2027 and 2028 respectively; contracts expire after 2027.
