An Elite Trail Runner Died After a Fall Near One of Norway’s Most Famous Summits
The ASICS Trail athlete and chemistry teacher had recently placed second at Marathon du Mont-Blanc and fourth at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships.
- On Saturday, September 19, Norwegian trail runner Ida Amelie Robsahm, 30, died after a fall during a hike. Rescue teams were unable to save her despite a helicopter recovery effort.
- Reports of the fall, which "is said to have been several dozen metres," reached police Saturday morning near the summit of Romsdalseggen, one of Norway's most challenging trails.
- A chemistry teacher at Foss Upper Secondary School in Oslo, Robsahm also competed semi-professionally with ASICS Trail, placing fourth at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in 2025.
- Students at the school were informed of her death on Monday, September 21, and flags were flown at half-mast. The running community, including mountaineer Kilian Jornet, expressed condolences online.
- "Ida was a remarkable athlete and teammate," Asics wrote on Instagram. Her family extended a "warm thank you" to the running community in a statement to the Norwegian Broadcasting Company.
