An avalanche has struck the Tatra Mountains. Rescuers have pulled out one person.

An avalanche occurred in the area of Rysy. Rescuers pulled one person out from under the snow. TOPR reminds that currently moving in the mountains requires maintaining safety and the ability to assess the avalanche threat.

The Tatra Volunteer Search and Rescue Service has announced the third, or significant, level of avalanche danger. After heavy rain and snowfall, the situation in the higher parts of the mountains has deteriorated significantly. TOPR appeals to tourists and ski mountaineers to be extremely careful and not to go out on avalanche-prone trails. Yesterday, a huge avalanche came down from Rysy, in which one person was injured.

TOPR rescuers transported an injured ski mountaineer to a hospital in Zakopane after he was partially buried in an avalanche in the area of the trail to Rysy. He sustained minor injuries, TOPR chief Jan Krzysztof said. On Friday at 10:30 a.m., TOPR headquarters received a report that an avalanche had occurred in the area of the trail to Rysy.
