Amy Winehouse's Father Sues Star's Friends for Auctioning Her Clothes
Mitch Winehouse alleges former stylist and friend sold over 150 personal items from Amy Winehouse’s estate without consent, raising $1.2 million at US auctions.
- On Monday, Mitch Winehouse, administrator of Amy Winehouse’s estate, sued Naomi Parry, stylist, and Catriona Gourlay, friend and former flatmate, alleging undisclosed profits from auctions in the United States in 2021 and 2023.
- Mr Winehouse says the dispute stems from believing all 834 lots in the 2021 auction catalogue belonged to the estate, but over 150 items were asserted by the women, including a silk mini-dress sold for 243,200.
- Auction records show that Naomi Parry sold around 50 items for $878,183 and Catriona Gourlay sold around 90 items for $334,113, with both attending a second auction in May 2023.
- The defendants counter that many disputed items were gifted or always belonged to Naomi Parry and Catriona Gourlay, and their barristers argue that years of sharing and swapping support these ownership claims.
- The 2021 auction accounted for proceeds of around 1.4 million dollars, with 30% going to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, while Darren Julien, of Julien's Auctions, did not correct Mr Winehouse's belief all lots belonged to the estate.
