Amit Shah Advocates Comprehensive Border Security Approach
Shah will review surveillance feeds and push a four-part border security plan involving the BSF, Army, residents and local officials.
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inspect Border Outpost Harami Nala on May 29 as part of a two-day Gujarat tour beginning Thursday, reviewing PTZ camera surveillance feeds and visiting the sensitive creek area by boat.
- Shah's Harami Nala inspection stems from his first-ever extensive multi-state border tour beginning May 25, during which he has held detailed meetings with state governments and the BSF across Bihar, Rajasthan, Kutch, Tripura and West Bengal.
- Harami Nala lies in Kutch district near Bhuj and is strategically important for the BSF due to its shallow, marshy terrain vulnerable to infiltration and smuggling; the area has seen repeated seizures of Pakistani fishing boats.
- Speaking at the Sanchu outpost on Tuesday, Shah emphasized that border security requires a quadrangular framework involving the BSF, Army, border residents and local administration, asserting that safeguarding frontiers cannot remain solely the responsibility of security forces.
- Shah's strategy extends beyond security to comprehensive border village development under the Vibrant Villages Programme, emphasizing 100 per cent saturation of welfare schemes, while security agencies must remain vigilant against both cross-border and internal threats posed by external forces.
