AMD Confirms Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Priced at $899
AMD says the 16-core chip adds 192MB of L3 cache and is aimed at gaming and workstation users.
- AMD announced the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 "Dual Edition" will cost $899 when it launches on April 22. The processor adds L3 cache by placing SRAM on both core chiplet dies.
- Compatible with AM5 motherboards, the 16-core chip provides 192MB of L3 cache, up from 128MB in the regular Ryzen 9 9950X3D released a year ago. This architecture enables both gaming and workstation performance.
- AMD's benchmarks show the Dual Edition offering a 5% to 10% performance increase over last year's model across 3D modeling, software compiling, and video rendering. The chip features a 5.6GHz boost clock speed.
- Hardware analyst Michael Justin Allen Sexton noted that AMD previously encountered a "performance penalty" when running workloads across dual compute dies. The new design attempts to mitigate this historical challenge.
- Surprisingly, AMD has not published gaming benchmarks for the chip despite releasing workstation performance data. This absence leaves questions about gaming-focused performance at launch.
