Amazon's New AI Shopping Tool 'Help Me Decide' Will Assist You in Choosing What to Buy

Amazon's AI tool uses browsing and purchase history to provide tailored product suggestions, aiming to improve shopping decisions and increase customer confidence, the company said.

  • Amazon introduced the `Help Me Decide` feature, which uses searches, browsing and shopping history to recommend products and explain suitability, now available to U.S. consumers on the Amazon Shopping app and web.
  • Over the past year, Amazon introduced multiple shopping tools, including the Interests tool earlier this year and AI-powered shopping guides for over 100 categories in October 2024.
  • Using large language models with AWS Bedrock, OpenSearch and SageMaker, the `Help Me Decide` button appears after browsing similar items and shows recommendations with summaries and budget options.
  • Rolling out in the U.S., the Help Me Decide rollout is designed to help customers decide and encourage purchases, Daniel Lloyd, vice president of personalization at Amazon, said it saves time by tailoring recommendations.
  • Competitors including Google, OpenAI and Perplexity are investing in AI shopping tools, while Amazon recently debuted Lens Live and experiments with AI-generated hosts relying on customer reviews.
