Amazon to Show AI-Generated Product Images When You Shop for Real-Life Products

  • On Wednesday, Amazon announced that US customers will see AI-generated product images when typing search queries into the Amazon Shopping app. These images serve as visual suggestions rather than photos of real products.
  • Amazon explains the feature is meant to "bridge the gap between imagination and product discovery." The tool assists shoppers who cannot recall specific terminology, such as "cowl neck" for a shirt with a draped collar.
  • Currently available on Android and iOS, the tool works for apparel and home goods. When users enter descriptions, the search bar generates images in real time, allowing shoppers to tap the best match and browse similar, purchasable items.
  • Unlike the separate "Shop by style" feature that displays purchasable outfit collages, these AI-generated images are not physical inventory. They serve purely as visual guides to help customers when visual details matter most.
  • This launch continues Amazon's broader AI integration efforts, including the recent Alexa for Shopping replacement. Prime Day, beginning June 23 and arriving earlier than usual this year, positions the feature ahead of the company's biggest shopping event.
