Amazon Orders New 'Stargate' TV Series
- Amazon MGM Studios has ordered a new Stargate series to be released exclusively on Prime Video, with Martin Gero serving as writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
- After Amazon's $8.5B acquisition of MGM in 2022, Stargate was identified as an early MGM title for adaptation, with the franchise spanning three decades including Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe.
- Amazon has paired the series with veteran franchise figures such as Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, and consulting producers Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi.
- This will be the first Stargate TV series since Stargate Universe ended in 2011, and it is among the first greenlights since Peter Friedlander became Head of Global TV at Amazon MGM Studios.
- Martin Gero, who began his TV career on Stargate, served as Story Editor on Stargate: Atlantis years ago and most recently showran NBC's Quantum Leap and created Blindspot.
