Fiji Schools Will Remain Closed as Tropical Cyclone Vaianu Intensifies

Tropical Cyclone Vaianu intensified to a Category 2 system at 6am today, with The Fiji Meteorological Service expecting it to reach severe Category 3 status within 24 hours.
The Education Ministry ordered all schools to remain closed following consultation with the National Disaster Management Office, directing all students including boarders to stay home.
Education Aseri Radrodro urged parents to monitor children closely and warned against swimming in rivers, creeks, or the sea during the storm period.
The Meteorological Service maintains a heavy rain warning for the entire Fiji group, while a flash flood alert remains in force for low-lying settlements and businesses.
At 10am today, Tropical Cyclone Vaianu was analysed at 530km west northwest of Yasawa, moving south southeast at about 9km, with associated rain expected for the next few days.
