Alibaba launches AI chatbot service in renewed consumer push
Alibaba integrates AI chatbot powered by Qwen3 into Quark app and launches Quark AI Glasses priced at 4,699 yuan, challenging rivals ByteDance and Tencent.
- On Thursday, Alibaba Group Holding Limited unveiled an AI Chat Assistant powered by Qwen3 models and integrated it into the Quark app to add conversational search and services.
- This year, Quark app was repositioned from a browser into Alibaba's flagship consumer application to compete with ByteDance and Tencent Holdings in AI.
- The update adds chat mode with text or voice, and Alibaba said the Quark AI frame supports hands-free calling and translation at 4,699 yuan.
- On Oct. 24, pre-sales will begin on Tmall e-commerce platform for Quark AI Glasses, and Alibaba shares closed nearly 1.7% higher after the launch.
- User numbers show Quark had 6.96 million monthly active users in September versus ByteDance's Doubao at 150 million, while analysts forecast cloud growth between 31% and 38%, with others expecting about 30%.
