Actor Madani Namoun died Tuesday in Algiers at the age of 81, following a long illness, his relatives said. Born in the Casbah in 1944, the deceased was one of Algeria's most famous artists. He began acting at a very young age in the 1950s, before rising to prominence after independence through his roles in numerous famous films, including Leila wa Akhawatouha (Leila and Her Sisters - 1977) and Abwab Essamt (The Doors of Silence - 1987).
