Alessandro Michele Lets Valentino’s Archives Run Wild for Spring/Summer 2027
Alessandro Michele framed the collection around unread books and garments kept for later, while guests were asked to bring volumes for donation.
On Sunday, Creative Director Alessandro Michele unveiled Valentino's Spring/Summer 2027 collection at Paris's 19th-century Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève. The show, dubbed "Antibiblioteca," featured colourful corset tops, lace skirts, and chunky gold necklaces in the iconic reading room.
Michele, who previously reinvigorated Gucci during an eight-year tenure, is under pressure to revive the Roman fashion house after it swung to a €103 million loss last year as revenues fell 15%.
Guests including actors Alexander Skarsgard and Cynthia Erivo brought favourite books to the event and were seated at long oak reading tables. Models wore sequinned shirts and baseball caps emblazoned with "VILLAIN TEEN."
The collection showcased elaborate baroque gold necklaces and strapless dresses, including a floor-length Valentino red number with a giant black bow. Michele mixed hot pink, yellow, and forest green, referencing the house's legacy.
Qatar-Backed Mayhoola and French luxury group Kering committed financial support in June to aid the brand's recovery. Kering holds options to increase its ownership to 100% before 2029, securing the house's future.
