Kushner Project Being Developed on Disputed Land, Albanian Villagers Say
Villagers say the project blocks access to land they claim as theirs, while protests have spread over environmental concerns in a protected coastal area.
Villagers from Zvernec protested in Tirana on June 15, opposing a luxury resort project linked to Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump, on environmentally sensitive Adriatic coast land.
Residents of Zvernec claim their land was wrongly sold for development by a rival claimant. Several showed Reuters property deeds to support their ownership assertions during the ongoing legal struggle.
Located in the Vjosa-Narte protected area, the planned resort site is a habitat for migrating flamingos, seals, and sea turtles. Critics fear development will damage this sensitive ecosystem near Zvernec.
Legal disputes over land ownership remain common in Albania, and this specific case remains unresolved. Protesters continue demanding that work on the project be halted immediately.
Kushner has not directly responded to questions about the plans or the land dispute. Meanwhile, officials in Albania continue championing the project as a way to create jobs and attract investment.
