PML-N's Najeeb Naqi Elected as 25th President of AJK

Dr. Najeeb Naqi Khan was elected as the 25th President of AJK on Thursday, securing 32 votes in the AJK Assembly against Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Chaudhry Latif Akbar, who received 13 votes.
The presidential office had remained vacant since the death of Barrister Sultan Mahmood in January; Dr. Najeeb Naqi, who previously served as health minister from 2016 to 2021, is expected to take the oath soon.
According to the Election Commission secretary, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz secured three women's seats while the Pakistan Peoples Party bagged two of the seven special seats announced for the AJK Legislative Assembly.
Additionally, Barrister Iftikhar won the technocrat seat and Syed Mazhar Shah secured the Ulema-Mashaikh Council seat; the PML-N had previously won the overseas-reserved seat uncontested.
Following the vote, political circles extended congratulations to the newly elected president, while the Election Commission secretary reported a tie occurred between candidates Riffat Abid and Zobia Khursheed.
