Air India Express Pilot Accused of Hitting Passenger at Delhi Airport Arrested, Released on Bail
Captain Virendra Sejwal was arrested after a CCTV and witness-backed probe into a December 19 security lane dispute that led to a physical altercation, police said.
- On Monday, Delhi Police detained Captain Virendra Sejwal, questioning him about an alleged assault at Indira Gandhi International Airport's Terminal 1 on December 19.
- Directed to a staff/PRM security lane, Dewan and his family objected when he alleged airline staff and Sejwal cut the queue, sparking a dispute at Terminal 1, IGIA, Delhi.
- The Ministry of Civil Aviation ordered a probe on December 20 and Air India Express removed Captain Virendra Sejwal from duties; he was travelling off‑duty on an IndiGo flight to Bengaluru.
- Sejwal contested the passenger's account, saying Ankit Dewan used abusive, degrading and allegedly casteist language, and Sejwal's lawyer added that casteist remarks and threats targeted female family members, calling it misrepresented on social media.
- The passenger's emailed complaint prompted the FIR filed on December 22 under sections 115, 126 and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after Ankit Dewan said he was struck and injured and returned from Jaipur before filing it.
