Air Canada Takes Delivery of First A321XLR in Hamburg
The leased jet is the first of 30 A321XLR aircraft Air Canada plans to add, with 14 lie-flat seats and new cabin features.
- On Friday, Air Canada took delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR in Hamburg, Germany, becoming the first Canadian operator of the long-range narrowbody. The carrier will integrate the jet into its network following Transport Canada certification.
- This delivery represents the first of 30 A321XLR aircraft entering Air Canada's fleet, with 15 leased from SMBC Aviation Capital and 15 acquired directly from Airbus. The program marks a milestone in the airline's multi-year fleet renewal strategy.
- The A321XLR debuts the new 'Glowing Hearted' cabin standard, featuring 14 lie-flat seats in Air Canada Signature Class on a single-aisle aircraft. The configuration offers personal device power at every seat and fast Wi-Fi for Aeroplan members.
- Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Mark Galardo said the aircraft will "shortly be deployed across the Atlantic from Montréal and Toronto" on transatlantic and North American transcontinental routes. This capability unlocks new international city pairs for the airline.
- Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales, stated the A321XLR empowers Air Canada to unlock ambitious routes "with unprecedented efficiency" due to reduced fuel burn and CO2 emissions. Air Canada continues modernizing its fleet with orders for eight A350-1000s and 14 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners.
