Yorkshire Firms Say Artificial Intelligence Is Helping Create New Jobs
The Lloyds Business Barometer found 25% of UK employers are hiring candidates with AI skills as 54% say the technology created jobs.
Most British businesses report that artificial intelligence has created new roles, with a quarter of employers hiring for AI skills and a fifth creating AI-specific roles, according to the Lloyds Business Barometer.
To maintain competitiveness, 58 per cent of firms plan to increase investment in AI to "upskill their workforce," moving beyond initial experimentation into hiring strategy integration.
While 62 per cent of firms in the West Midlands currently use AI, 31 per cent of businesses nationally report their workforce lacks the necessary capabilities to meet demands.
Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey highlighted the challenge of using AI as a productivity booster, while New Prime Minister Andy Burnham warned about the impact on jobs and young people.
Amanda Murphy, chief executive of commercial banking at Lloyds, says firms must focus on "building the skills, culture and confidence to use it effectively" to achieve sustainable growth.
