After retiring Zdeno Chara's No. 33, Bruins get off to quick start and beat Kraken 4-2
- On Thursday night, the Bruins raised Zdeno Chara's No. to the TD Garden rafters and beat the Seattle Kraken 4-2, with Jeremy Swayman making 25 saves and Pastrnak sealing it with an empty-net goal.
- And then everything changed July 1, 2006, when Boston signed Zdeno Chara to a five-year, $37.5 million contract; his arrival is credited with seven straight playoff seasons and the 2011 Stanley Cup under Claude Julien.
- In the 2011 Stanley Cup Final, Chara played about 70 minutes against the Sedins, Vancouver went 2-for-32 on the power play, and Boston outscored Vancouver 15-6 in his ice time.
- After the ceremony the Boston Bruins completed a homestand sweep, allowing only five goals in five games, while David Pastrnak and other players called the night a huge motivator.
- Coach Marco Sturm, Boston Bruins coach, recalled that Chara `he arrived with a bang`, reshaping practice culture and mentoring first-year players to uphold demanding standards.
