Adrian Newey reveals truth behind Lawrence Stroll Honda meeting rumours
Newey said Stroll’s trip to Honda’s Sakura base was a routine executive check-in as Aston Martin and Honda work through early reliability issues.
On Friday at the United States Grand Prix, Aston Martin team principal Adrian Newey acknowledged Honda's disappointment with this season's progress, maintaining a diplomatic stance while emphasizing the company's resolve to improve.
Newey conceded that Honda currently trails the development pace set when Red Bull Racing began their 2019 partnership, noting this is only their first year back compared to four seasons after their 2015 return.
Adrian Newey confirmed that Aston Martin team owner Lawrence Stroll traveled to Japan for a "scheduled meeting" with Honda at its Sakura base, part of senior executive sessions held every two or three months.
While the Silverstone-based squad remains 10th in the constructors' championship, Newey reported a strong "buzz" in the factory as engineers generate new ideas and work closely with Honda.
Looking toward 2027, Newey expressed confidence in the energy and early-stage projects under development, though he noted it remains too early to predict precise power unit performance under Power Unit Advisory Committee regulations.
