Adrian Newey Reveals 'Pain and Frustration' in Christian Horner Book Response
Newey said he felt pain and frustration over Red Bull’s power-unit troubles and said he and Horner remain friends.
On Friday, Aston Martin managing technical partner Adrian Newey addressed criticism from former Red Bull colleague Christian Horner ahead of the United States Grand Prix in Austin, stating, "I haven't read any of it yet."
Released on October 22, Horner's autobiography Drive includes allegations that Newey possessed a difficult management style and sought to "abandon ship" during Red Bull's 2014 struggles.
Defending his tenure, Newey referenced the "pain and frustration" caused by Renault's engine performance, which left a "quite bleak" outlook for Red Bull during the mid-2010s.
Despite the public dispute, Newey emphasized that he and Horner remain friends, noting he is godfather to Horner's daughter, Olivia.
Newey continues his transition to Aston Martin as managing technical partner, a position he accepted in early 2025 following a 20-year tenure at Red Bull.
