19 holidaymakers suffer suspected heat strokes – too little drinking, no sun protection. Italy moans under a heat wave with temperatures well above average.
Nineteen Austrian teenagers received medical treatment for suspected heatstroke in the northern Italian Adriatic resort of Lignano Sabbiadoro. The teenagers, aged 15 and 16, had arrived in Lignano for a camping trip. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon, reported the regional newspaper "Messaggero Veneto".
After arriving at the resort, the young people went directly to the beach and had spent the whole day there. Apparently, they stayed in the sun without sufficient sun protection and also received too little fluid. The rescue centre sent two ambulances from Lignano Sabbiadoro and Latisana as well as an emergency medical vehicle. A total of eight volunteers were on site.
