Meet 80s Sherlock Star David Burke's Famous Wife and Son as Star Dies Aged 91
Acclaimed Actor David Burke, known for his portrayal as Watson in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, has died aged 91. His agent, Scott Marshall Partners, confirmed the news on Friday.
Trained at Rada, Burke established a career spanning stage, television, and radio. He appeared in Coronation Street in the 1960s before his breakout role as the detective's sidekick opposite Jeremy Brett.
The actor performed in a National Theatre production of King Lear alongside Ian Holm and appeared in Midsomer Murders. He also shared the screen with Felicity Kendal in The Woodlanders.
Burke is survived by his wife, Anna Calder-Marshall, who has appeared in Grantchester and Bodies, and their son, Tom Burke, known for roles in The Musketeers and Strike.
Reflecting on his career choices, Burke once told his son, "I didn't just want to work; I also wanted to be your dad." This sentiment captures the personal priorities he balanced alongside his achievements.
