A study by the University of Cadiz (UCA) has documented what could be the first football match played in Spain, dated February 13, 1869 in Jerez. The research, according to Rafael Cano, vice-dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Communication of the Jerez campus, is based on historical archives that can be consulted in the Library.
To commemorate the anniversary of this first documented football match in Spain will be played this Friday in La Canaleja a match between former players of the Xerez CD and Cadiz with a combination of the UCA José Antonio Rueda and Andalusia, at the top
