5 extinct species we hope science never brings back
- Colossal Biosciences announced the birth of three pups resembling extinct dire wolves on Monday.
- Dire wolves, popularized by Game of Thrones, vanished around 10,000 years ago, prompting Colossal's de-extinction effort.
- Scientists modified gray wolf genes, using DNA from a 13,000-year-old tooth and 72,000-year-old skull.
- Colossal's CEO, Ben Lamm, stated they pair de-extinction with conservation; George Church cited skull modifications.
- While Colossal calls them 'dire wolves', some scientists consider them genetically modified gray wolves, questioning the de-extinction claim.

Company resurrects the extinct dire wolf, or some version of it
The dire wolf was one of the most formidable predators in the Americas during the last Ice Age, possessing a body more stout and a skull more robust than those of modern wolves. The species went extinct along with many…

Did Colossal Biosciences actually bring dire wolves back from extinction? Scientists say it depends
According to the Center for Biological Diversity, climate change is projected to cause the extinction of more than a third of the species of plants and animals in the world in 25 years. But scientists at genetics laboratory Colossal Biosciences are claiming they may have a solution—one they say has resulted in the birth of the first dire wolves in more than 10,000 years. Colossal’s website proclaims the lab to be the world’s only company working…
After resurrecting the Dire Wolf, scientists urged to bring back extinct temple bar Goths
IN ASTONISHING news, a group of scientists are laying claiming to having resurrected the long extinct dire wolf, last seen on earth 10,000 years ago. However, instead of basking in worldwide adulation they presumed they'd receive, the scientists at Colossal Biosciences in America have been urged to direct their genome modifying tech to bringing back Ireland's rarest species; that of the old Central Bank dwelling goths. "Ah they were always good …
5 extinct species we hope science never brings back
(NEXSTAR) — This week, a Texas-based biosciences company, which aims to "de-extinct" animal species of the past (and ones that will go extinct in the future), said it managed to engineer three dire wolves — which have been extinct for over 10,000 years. Though Colossal Biosciences has described the scientific feat as "bringing back the first animal from extinction," there are others in the community who disagree with the viability of the concept…
Biotech firm says it's revived dire wolf 13,000 years after extinction
Dallas-based biotech company Colossal says they’ve resurrected the giant Ice Age dire wolf species made famous on the television series “Game of Thrones” through a process called de-extinction. The company recreated the dire wolves’ genome using extremely advanced genetic editing technologies that could shape the future of the ecosystem and make extinction a thing of the past. NBC’s Liz Kreutz reports for TODAY.
