A shooter kills 2 at a Northern California library and an 18-year-old suspect has been arrested

- On Monday evening, a shooting at the Chico Branch of the Butte County Library left two adults dead and one child injured, with Police Chief Billy Aldridge confirming the suspect is in custody.
- Multiple 911 callers reported gunshots and screaming at 5:12 p.m. at the Butte County Library on East First Avenue, prompting The Chico Police Department to respond about six minutes later.
- As officers entered the building, the suspect fled out the back where police had established a perimeter; Aldridge said officers took him into custody shortly thereafter without incident.
- The injured child was transported to Enloe Medical Center with wounds that were not life-threatening, while Aldridge said, "We don't feel like there's any further threat to the public."
- Streets surrounding the scene at Sherman Avenue and East 3rd Street remain closed late into the night as the investigation continues, while authorities have not released the victims' identities pending family notification.
