The recently discovered C/2026 A1 (MAPS), currently approaching Earth, is one of the brightest comets ever observed. If it survives its passage past the Sun, astronomers say it could shine so brightly that people will be able to see it during the day. The object is a fragment of a much larger comet.

After a long time, this spring there will once again be a chance for spectacular comets to appear, even visible to the naked eye, including the recently discovered object C/2026 A1 (MAPS), which may be the brightest in the coming months, IFLScience wrote.
