Tragic Collapse at Margudevi Temple: Six Devotees Killed
Stormy weather caused the temple wall to fall on about 350 devotees, officials said, leaving several in critical condition.
On Tuesday, a wall collapsed at the Margudevi Temple in Motewadi, Sangli, Maharashtra, killing six people and injuring 14 during the Margubai Devi Yatra.
Heavy rains and strong winds lashed the area, tearing off a metal shed that struck a stone wall, trapping around 350 devotees who had gathered for shelter.
Sangli Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi noted that authorities and locals immediately initiated rescue operations, with at least 14 people remaining in critical condition undergoing treatment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, stating he was "deeply pained" to hear of the fatalities and hoped the injured would recover at the earliest.
Three of the deceased were locals, while the other three were from Bijapur; authorities continue managing the aftermath of the structural failure during the Margubai Devi Yatra.
Six devotees were reported dead and several others injured when a wall collapsed due to strong winds during a religious ceremony in Maharashtra's Sangli district.
