Parliament Approves Creation of Gendarmerie Corps and Changes in Active Reserves

The Slovak parliament has decided to create a gendarmerie corps to strengthen the police. It could be established as early as this summer. The opposition has called the unit unnecessary.

National Council deputies on Tuesday approved changes to the active reserves that will replace the National Defense Force. The proposal also includes the creation of a gendarmerie corps, which could assist the police in maintaining public order.
