Tech Exec Among 8 Killed In Lake Tahoe Boating Tragedy
LAKE TAHOE, CALIFORNIA, JUN 25 – The boat capsized during a sudden storm with 8-foot waves, killing eight including DoorDash executive Joshua Pickles and family members, while two survivors were rescued.
A 27-foot Chris-Craft boat capsized on Lake Tahoe on June 21, 2025, killing eight of the ten people on board near D.L. Bliss State Park.
The accident occurred after an unexpected storm caused 8-foot waves and wind gusts of 80 to 100 mph, which were worse than weather forecasts predicted.
Among the deceased was Joshua Pickles, a 37-year-old DoorDash senior director, who died along with his parents, uncle, and five friends during a birthday celebration.
Two survivors were rescued and hospitalized, but officials could not confirm whether life jackets were worn due to the early stage of the investigation.
Authorities continued search efforts through June 23, and the tragedy highlighted risks of sudden storms on Lake Tahoe despite warnings and advisories.
