Ukrainian seasonal workers hired to pick strawberries on a farm in western Finland say they were overworked, underpaid and poorly treated, according to testimonies collected by Finnish broadcaster Yle. Four workers, Nadija Bolehovska, Ljubov Zavadetska, Vasyl Konevych and Boryslava Konevych, said the reality of their experience fell far short of expectations. They are returning to Ukraine earlier than planned.
Foreign seasonal workers pick berries and vegetables for Finns. It was discovered that some of them work excessively long hours, are underpaid and have no days off.
The Russian media rejoices every time European treachery is exposed. The Russian media is spreading a news story from Yle, which claims that Ukrainian strawberry pickers are being humiliated in Finland and kept in conditions similar to slavery. Yle interviewed a dozen Ukrainian workers from Finnish farms. They spoke of widespread abuse, humiliation and unpaid wages.
