Bitcoin Causes 98 Million Tonnes of CO2 per Year

The CO2 emission of a bitcoin transaction corresponds to that of 1.4 million visa transactions, according to the crypto portal Digiconomist.

The annual carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions resulting from Bitcoin transactions currently amount to 98 million tons, Swiss media reported today.

According to the portal, a single Bitcoin transaction currently causes as much CO2 as watching about 105,000 hours of YouTube videos - or processing 1.4 million visa transactions.
