Groups that Throw Birthday Parties for Homeless, Design Clothes for Disabilities Receive NBCUniversal Grants
The unrestricted funding supports youth education, community engagement and storytelling programs, and NBCUniversal says the grant program has now given $24.3 million to 695 nonprofits.
On Wednesday, NBC 5 Chicago, Telemundo Chicago, and Comcast NBCUniversal announced that eight Chicago-area nonprofits were awarded more than $220,000 through the 2026 NBCUniversal Local Impact Grants.
NBCUniversal issued a total of $2.5 million in unrestricted funds this week to support eligible nonprofits across 11 NBC- and Telemundo-owned stations' markets spanning Chicago, New York, and Boston.
Each of the 80 selected organizations operates within three categories: youth education and empowerment, next generation storytellers, and community engagement. The ninth-annual program has provided $24.3 million to 695 nonprofits since 2018.
"Local nonprofit organizations help expand opportunity, strengthen community connections and create lasting impact," said Jessica Clancy, NBCUniversal's senior vice president of corporate social responsibility.
Recipients include Chicago-based 826CHI, which received $47,000 for creative writing programs, and Connecticut-based Amy's Angels Corporation, awarded $25,000 to assist families managing serious illness or injury.
