72nd Veterans Day Program at GHV on Nov. 11

GARNER - On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, an armistice between the Allied nations and Germany ended the “Great War” (World War I). “Armistice Day”, as it was known, became a federal holiday in the United States in 1938. Following World War II and the Korean War, the name was changed to “Veterans Day” in 1954 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to honor American veterans of all wars.

Veterans Day programs planned Tuesday

Veterans Day will be observed locally next Tuesday, with the Fayette County Honor Guard now fully restored and an afternoon program at Connersville Middle School.

Veterans Day services will be held Tuesday, November 11 at Scobey Schools at 10 a.m. In Opheim services will be November 11 at 11 a.m. at Opheim school with a luncheon to follow served by the Opheim Legion Auxiliary.
