Defence Minister Pistorius has complained of a too negative public image of the Bundeswehr. In ZDF, the SPD politician said that no country would talk about its own armed forces as badly as in Germany. In doing so, the Bundeswehr was much better than its reputation and the force was really well positioned. Federal President Steinmeier also commented on the 70th founding day of the Bundeswehr.

The Bundeswehr was created in the light of the East-West conflict, but the debates on conscription and NATO targets from the founding days are reminiscent of today.
