Domestic Airlines Delayed Over 4,000 Flights, Cancel 36 Others In August

The regulator said 15 carriers operated 7,961 flights, while Air Peace and United Nigeria led in delays and cancellations.

  • During August 2026, 59.9% of domestic flights in Nigeria were delayed, according to data from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority . The 15 carriers operated 7,961 flights during the month.
  • Of the 4,765 delayed flights, 2,801 were held up for between 16 minutes and one hour, while 1,322 experienced delays of between one and two hours. The NCAA reported these breakdowns on Sunday.
  • Air Peace recorded the highest number of delayed flights with 1,330 delays out of 1,864 operations, representing 71.4 per cent. United Nigeria Airlines followed with 943 delays out of 1,231 flights.
  • Separately, the NCAA sanctioned RwandAir N15 million for consumer protection violations involving damaged baggage. The airline was directed to replace the bag and pay $170 as first-need compensation.
  • Michael Achimugu, NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, confirmed that some Air Peace aircraft are grounded due to technical issues and bird strikes. These operational constraints continue affecting service delivery.
