JUST IN: One Dead, Four Rescued As Four Storey Building Collapses In Enugu
Officials said four workers were rescued and one body recovered after the under-construction hotel collapsed, with the cause still under investigation.
- On Sunday, a four-storey hotel building under construction collapsed in the Independence Layout area of Enugu State, killing one person and injuring four others.
- Prior to the collapse, the Enugu Capital Territory Development Agency sealed the facility after finding serious integrity issues and non-compliance with the structure's 2021 approval, having issued a "stop work order" six months earlier.
- Six people were reportedly sleeping at the site when the structure fell at about 5 a.m., but one person escaped before the incident, according to Enugu State Fire Service Director Okwudiri Oha.
- Rescuers from the National Emergency Management Agency , the Red Cross, the State Emergency Authority , and the Police extracted four survivors, who are receiving treatment at the Enugu State Teaching Hospital.
- ECTDA Chairman Uche Anya referred the property owner's representative to the police for investigation, while SEMA Executive Secretary Chinasa Mbah confirmed excavation will continue to ensure no survivors remain trapped in the rubble.
