6 People Die in Fiery Tehama County Crash
Six people died, including a TRAX employee, after a head-on collision on Highway 99W; one person was critically injured and airlifted to Enloe Medical Center.
- The California Highway Patrol said a southbound Toyota Tacoma crossed into the northbound lane and struck a Tehama County TRAX transit bus on Highway 99W south of Gyle Road, killing six and airlifting one to Enloe Health on Jan. 14, 2026.
- California Highway Patrol investigators said the Toyota Tacoma crossed the broken yellow centerline at an unknown speed, and it remains unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors as the multidisciplinary investigative process continues.
- The Tehama County transit bus, a county-contracted TRAX vehicle carrying five passengers, became fully engulfed in flames as CAL FIRE Tehama-Glenn, Tehama County Fire Department, Corning Fire Department, and air ambulance crews responded.
- The Tehama County Board of Supervisors expressed condolences, requested privacy for grieving families, and said transit service will resume when operationally able.
- Officials are asking community members and witnesses to contact the CHP Red Bluff office or Tehama County Coroner's Office while the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team assists on scene.
