5 terrorists killed, 8 arrested in Malakand CTD operation: local official
MALAKAND DISTRICT, KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA, PAKISTAN, JUL 20 – Joint operation by police, Counter-Terrorism Department, and Levies neutralized nine terrorists and arrested eight, dismantling two hideouts and recovering weapons and explosives, officials said.
- From July 16 to 20, security forces and Levies conducted a joint operation, killing three terrorists and arresting seven others at the Mehrde area of Dargai tehsil, Malakand district.
- Prompted by a tip-off, police said the operation targeted Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists, involving police, Levies, CTD and district administration.
- During the operation, security forces seized explosives from the suspects’ possession and recovered a large cache of weapons, ammunition and explosives.
- After the operation, the military’s media wing said, `Locals of the area appreciated the operation and expressed their full support to the state’s counter terrorism efforts`, while arrested militants were sent to the CTD center and injured to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Dargai.
- Further operations are expected, as authorities noted that a sanitisation operation is still in progress and arrested suspects are being interrogated.
